Part of: Today is October 16, 2026. Tags: [VERIFIED] read on the primary source; [PUBLIC] credible secondary report; [TESTIMONY] what someone said or projected, evidence about the speaker; [ESTIMATE] a third party's estimate. These rows are being added to FutureSearch's published register on recursive self-improvement (RSI) at frontier AI labs, and to its published financial forecasts on Anthropic and OpenAI. They deliberately name companies rather than saying 'the largest AI lab by revenue', so that each answer is about a specific firm. UPLIFT CONVENTION (applies to every row that mentions uplift). 'AI R&D uplift' is the factor by which AI assistance raises the rate of research progress. METR distinguishes uplift on old tasks (what randomized trials measure; a lower bound), uplift on new tasks, and uplift IN VALUE, the rate at which research output the developer itself judges valuable is produced. All uplift rows here resolve on uplift IN VALUE. Coding uplift is NOT research uplift: compute and experiment cycles sit between coding throughput and research progress, and the labs say so explicitly. ATTRIBUTION STANDARD. Where a source says someone thinks, claims, projects or estimates, that is evidence about the speaker, not about the world. Do not adopt any published median or scenario as a premise. NOW-CAST ROWS ask for the TRUE current value, which nobody publishes. Estimate what is true, not what has been documented. Since August 29, 2026: - [VERIFIED] 2026-09-22, Claude Opus 5.5 system card: automated R&D (autonomy threat model 2) 'is not applicable to Claude Opus 5.5'; the threshold is not crossed because '(1) we do not observe a sustained AI-attributable 2× acceleration in the pace of our overall AI progress, and (2) the model is not close to substituting for our Research Scientists and Research Engineers, especially relatively senior ones'. Opus 5.5 scores 55.8% on CoBench 2.1 against the 85% Anthropic associates with full substitution; on Anthropic's refit internal capability index (AECI) it scores 169.36, 1.24 above Claude Mythos 5.1, and 'even the trend break hypothesis does not cross the 2x slope change threshold set in the RSP'. Anthropic adds that some of its internal acceleration measures 'have moved, and we are monitoring them closely'. METR: 'We expect further public outputs from this separate investigation in the coming weeks.' Ratings come from a Claude judge model on a task basket frozen at July 2026 (about 15,000 tasks, 378 leaf categories), weighted by person-time; model-human exact agreement 59%, human-human 35%. AL rates task execution, not agenda-setting or experiment selection. (https://www.anthropic.com/institute/measuring-pace-of-ai-development) - [VERIFIED] 2026-09-06, OpenAI, 'Research acceleration: The view inside OpenAI' (developer-reported, with a methods appendix): its research organization logged 3.14 agent-workdays per researcher workday over the 28 days to 2026-08-15 (0.48 on 2026-05-03); experiments per active experimenter reached 1.60x the 2025 average (week of 2026-08-10), which OpenAI says is 'correlated with increased Codex adoption, though we note that our available compute has also grown significantly since 2025'; the Decide and Design phases of Epoch AI's AI R&D taxonomy were 2.8% of agent output tokens in August ('what to work on' 0.3%); zero-intervention success on tasks of 4-8 human-hours rose from 18% (January) to 53% (July 2026), as judged by a GPT-5.6 Sol classifier validated on 25 hand-labeled tasks. The post contains no research-uplift multiplier and no statement about a 2x pace. (https://openai.com/index/research-acceleration-view-inside-openai/) - [VERIFIED] 2026-10-13, Gemini 4 Argon model card (Frontier Safety Framework v3.1): 'ML R&D acceleration level 1' and 'ML R&D automation level 1' both 'CCL not reached' ('Gemini 4 Argon's performance remains below our CCL threshold'); Google cannot rule out that Argon reached the CCLs for biological information risk and for cybersecurity. (https://deepmind.google/models/model-cards/gemini-4-argon/) - [PUBLIC] Revenue run rates, via press rather than disclosure: Anthropic told investors its annualized run rate exceeded $65B at the end of July 2026 (CNBC, 2026-08-17); the Financial Times reported (2026-10-08) OpenAI's annualized revenue at about $50B as of late September, below a widely cited $68B, noting that Anthropic counts sales through cloud partners such as AWS and Google Cloud while OpenAI does not. No successor series was located. (https://metr.org/time-horizons/) - [VERIFIED] Frontier releases since late August 2026: OpenAI GPT-6 Astra (2026-09-03, staged access, $10/$50 per 1M input/output tokens); Anthropic Claude Opus 5.5 (2026-09-22), Sonnet 5.5 (2026-09-28) and Haiku 5.5 (2026-10-07); OpenAI withheld GPT-6.1 Astra (2026-09-28) and released GPT-6.1 Sol (2026-09-29, $2/$10); Google Gemini 4 Argon (announced 2026-09-30, generally available 2026-10-13); Meta Muse Wonder and Wonder Full (2026-10-12); Reflection AI unveiled Beam (2026-10-05), with weights said to be due later in October. Trackers differ in provider set and form factor, so their levels are not comparable with each other.
